How does it work
Named after the physicist Hermann von Helmholtz, the Helmholtz coils design consists of two copper coils of clearly defined radius separating by a distance equal to this radius. This design minimizes the non-uniformity of the field at the center of the coils and cancels out the Earth’s magnetic field.
Because the perturbations caused by magnetic fields are highly three-dimensional, both the coils and the watch holder are rotational. The impact of the magnetic field can thus be studied from all angles.
